Dave Tilton Portrait & Figurative Works

Inspired by an exploration of human nature, I create imaginary people.  As humans, we evolved to interpret the many nuances of posture and expression.  This is a key factor in our ability to assess the condition and emotion of others and, as such, establishes a pathway to empathy and intersubjectivity.

In my portrait and figurative work, I use a variety of techniques to create complex people that are both familiar and mysterious.  Like snapshots, these images capture a moment in a life unfolding.  Imbued with context, their story beckons and engages our speculative nature.
