Inspired by a genre of music that emphasizes mood and atmosphere, the landscapes included in Ambient explore the notion of "surrounding." This exploration ambles a bit, sometimes prodding the interplay between a thing and its surroundings, sometimes recognizing surroundings as a place in time, sometimes understanding place in terms of feel and mood. Ambient features over 25 new works that look closely at our surroundings and transform what is seen into images of contemplation and beauty.

All of the work in Ambient was created entirely in a digital environment. I choose to work in this environment because I believe there is a deep connection between what we see and what we hear. In the digital world, light and sound are both represented by 1s and 0s. The difference between them lies in how these 1s and 0s are manipulated and expressed. The digital medium allows me to consider how sound is synthesized into music and to re-conceptualize that process in order to transform light into art.

Dave Tilton was represented by Grace Chosy Gallery, 1825 Monroe Street, Madison, WI.
Recognized as one of the Madison, Wisconsin area's leading art galleries, the Grace Chosy Gallery closed due to the retirement of Owner/Director Karin Ketarkus in late summer 2013.  It had show contemporary national and regional fine art in a variety of media since 1979.

Dave is also represented at Edgewood Orchard Galleries, 4140 Peninsula Players Road, Fish Creek, WI (920-868-3579). Set on an 80 acre orchard and housed in a restored barn, the gallery and grounds are a favorite of those who make Door County a seasonal destination. The gallery is open May through October from 10am to 5pm daily.
