Remembered Landscapes
Grace Chosy Gallery, Madison, WI
September 3 -25, 2010
Artist Reception, Friday, September 10, 6 - 8 pm
We are fundamentally connected to landscapes. We inhabit them, shape them, and imbue them with significance. Some connections are universal, some are highly personal. Regardless, landscapes give context to the events that shape our lives.
When I reflect back on a landscape, I recall impressions more than details. In fact, my feelings and emotions about a place are what allow the details to persist in a meaningful way. Sometimes my impressions accumulate over many encounters with a particular place; sometimes they build on themselves and evolve through reflection; often they blend into a montage of places once distinct.
The images presented in Remembered Landscapes capture lasting impressions: the meditative quality of the horizon, the depth of reflected sky on water, the vibrancy of seasonal change. Through the use of color, form, and texture my images explore how memories re-form themselves into landscapes of meaning and significance.
